What Is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) provides a convenient way to syndicate information from a variety of sources, including news stories, updates to a web site or even source code check-ins for a development project. Each RSS feed is simply XML-based text document containing a list of content items.
Through RSS feeds, you can be notified when new content has been published. Typical applications for using RSS:
- Using a program known as a RSS Reader (News Aggregator) to display RSS feeds
- Incorporating RSS feeds into websites or weblogs
What Are RSS Readers?
RSS readers allow you to subscribe to RSS feeds much like web browsers allow you to view web pages. The RSS reader will automatically update on some regular schedule and display the new articles from the feeds you have supplied to the reader. Some RSS readers notify you when a new item has appeared from one of your feeds.
There are many different RSS clients available.
